In conjunction with National Financial Awareness Month, State Representative Bruce Hanna (R-Roseburg) will hold a Financial Readiness Town Hall at Sutherlin High School on Friday, April 26. The event is open to the entire community.
Representative Hanna has long been a champion for improved financial literacy, especially among Oregon's youth. His town hall is meant to provide students, their families, and the entire community with information and tools relating to basic financial literacy. Hanna will be jointed by experts in the personal finance industry to help raise awareness.
"Understanding personal finance is so important, but unfortunately we have lost ground in teaching young people about the basics," said Hanna in response to a national survey wherein high school aged participants scored only 48.3% in financial literacy. "This town hall is one step in providing people with more information, which I hope is beneficial as they plan for today, tomorrow and the future."

Rep. Hanna is the chief sponsor of House Bill 3111, which instructs the State Treasurer to promote childhood financial literacy, and HCR 15, which designates April 21-27 as Financial Literacy Week in Oregon. Unfortunately, both these bills died when House leadership failed to schedule them for action.
